Site Changes December 12, 1999
Since mid-October, Wankwood.com has been hosted on a new server as a result of my change in employment. My new employer does not use Axent's Raptor firewall, so the future development of Reptor, my Raptor firewall logfile analyzer, is uncertain right now.

However, with the Perl experience I've accumulated in the few years since I started Reptor, I've begun work on a new firewall logfile analyzer called FlogM that will hopefully be completely modular. It is primarily intended to be used with GNATBox, but if the modularity works well, I'll make a Raptor module for it.

In other news, I'm also working on some patches for UW-IMAP that will allow it to authenticate "virtual" users from a PostgreSQL database. It works quite well in conjunction with Michael Devogelaer's patches that allow qmail to deliver mail to the virtual users referenced in the same database. These patches, along with a webmail client like Twig or Imp allow a webmail system based totally on virtual users.

Also, QuakeWood is offline right now, and will never run on this server. Stay tuned, though -- QuakeWood Arena will likely appear on home.wankwood.com soon.

reptor-questions List Archive September 09, 1999
Holy crap, no news for quite a while, eh? I've been pretty busy with all those pictures of Joanna, I guess.

Anyway, I stumbled across MHonArc today. Pretty cool. The reptor-questions list archive is now web browsable here.

Reptor v0.90 December 07, 1998
Reptor v0.90 is now in beta test. Look for an official release before Christmas.

Cheaters Beware October 16, 1998
Lithium v1.22 now has ZBot detection support! Users of this cheating proxy bot will be immediately kicked from the server.

New Versions All Around September 11, 1998
Quake II v3.19 and Lithium II v1.21 have just been released. You'll need to install the v3.19 patch and the new VWEP that goes with it. The Lithium update is server side only, and requires no download. It adds support for this new version of Quake, Capture the Flag and a load of other minor things.

Reptor v0.72 July 30, 1998
I've added a handy feature to reptor that creates HREF tags in the report if HTML output is specified. In other words, HTTP, FTP, SMTP, and TELNET events that get reported in the alert section now include hyperlinks that refer to the URL in question.

The current version is now 0.72, and is available on the reptor download page.

Lithium v1.16 July 22, 1998
Lithium v1.16 is now installed. As usual, it mostly consists of bug fixes.

Mailing Lists July 14, 1998
I've added some reptor mailing lists and removed the message board. Refer to the reptor home page for more details.

Lithium v1.12 July 07, 1998
Lithium v1.12 is now installed. As usual, it mostly consists of bug fixes, but I did change some settings regarding the grappling hook. Check the Lithium page for more details.

Quake v3.17, Lithium v1.10 July 03, 1998
I've just installed Quake II version 3.17 and Lithium version 1.10. You'll need to download the version 3.17 patch from the files page in order to connect to the server. The new Lithium version consists mostly of bug fixes.

Reptor June 29, 1998
Version 0.70 of reptor, my Raptor Firewall logfile analysis and reporting tool is now available. There's a whole new section to support it, as indicated by the new button on the navbar.

Lithium v1.06 June 23, 1998
Hmm, wonder what happened to Lithium versions 1.04 and 1.05... Oh well, v1.06 is alive and well. The most significant new feature is map voting, which should prove to be fun.

Lithium v1.03 June 15, 1998
Happy happy, joy joy. Lithium version 1.03 is up and running. It contains mostly bug fixes and administration enhancements -- nothing terribly spectacular One thing to note, however -- I've changed the configuration file do disallow the invulnerability powerup.

Added Levels June 10, 1998
I've gone through some of the original Quake II levels and picked out some that seem to be small enough for four players. So far, I've added base1, base2, base3, and jail3. These will cycle randomly along with the other maps. No download is required.

Lithium v1.02 June 09, 1998
Lithium v1.02 is now installed. It seems that there was a small bug regarding the timing of the grappling hook in v1.01. The author is promising "a new version with more significant changes within a few days."

Lithium v1.01 June 08, 1998
Lithium v1.01 is now installed. Bug fixes include that annoying "white diamond" syndrome. New features include a fast weapon switch.

New Level June 03, 1998
The version 3.15 patch included a new level called Reckless Abandon, which I have added to the map list.

Version 3.15 May 31, 1998
QuakeWood has been udpated to Quake II version 3.15. In order to connect, you will need to download the update patch from the files page.

Also, the viewable weapons patch has been updated to fix some bugs. It is not a mandatory download, but should be installed when you get a chance.

Can't quite remember which level q2dm6 is? Fret no more! The status page has been enhanced to show a small screenshot of the currently running level.

New Deathmatch Flags May 01, 1998
I've changed the deathmatch flags variable to include the "Drop Quad" feature. If a player has picked up the Quad Damage artifact (they will be glowing blue) and is killed before it expires, it will be dropped.

Lithium v1.00 April 30, 1998
Lithium v1.00 is now installed. Quite a number of small bugs have been fixed, but there are no significant new changes.

Level Pack 2 Active April 21, 1998
Level Pack 2 is now active. If you haven't downloaded it yet, you'll be kicked from the server when one of the new levels gets loaded.

Official QuakeWood Statistics Engine v1.0 April 19, 1998
Yeah, baby! Dynamic sorting, percentages, graphs, you say? No problem! Check it out.

I've added a "source" button to the navigation bar. It will display the HTML source code as I wrote it -- before being parsed by PHP.

Statistics April 18, 1998
Since GibStats doesn't run on Linux, I've started working on my own statistics analyzer to parse the new log files created since Lithium v0.97. Check out the new QuakeWood statistics page to see my progress so far. It's fairly extensive, containing overall stats, high scores, and individual player details. I plan to add more detail and graphs soon.

I've updated the status page to show if anyone else is also currently viewing it. This should avoid the situation where two or more players would watch the status page, never seeing any server activity, and so would never start up a game.

You may also notice some new sub-buttons on the QuakeWood page that should make navigation there somewhat easier.

Level Pack 2 April 18, 1998
I've just put together level pack 2. It weighs in at almost 8 meg and contains 17 new levels for your fragging enjoyment. Download it ASAP -- it'll be mandatory before too long.

Also, I've installed Lithium v0.99, which consists mainly of minor bug fixes. One point to note -- the map randomizer has supposedly been made "more random" -- a deficiency that we had noticed and which I had emailed the author about. Supposedly coming soon is the ability to add computer controlled players, or bots, into the game.

Will it never end? April 08, 1998
Yup, another new Lithium version, v0.98. Mostly just bug fixes. Don't forget to bind the new command "menu" -- it's very handy.

For those of you that didn't actually participate, we tried out the Keys2 server mod package last night. The general consensus was that it's too unbalanced, too buggy, and too hectic. We'll stick with Lithium.

Last night's sessions with v0.97a produced some wonderful log files, but I can't get the f'ing GibStats program to work.

More Lithium April 07, 1998
Just can't get enough of that Lithium. In other words, version 0.97 is here. Major changes include historical frag logging (this should be fun) and menus.

The frag logging support is based on GSLog. Unfortunately, the log processor program only runs on Win95, so I won't be able to automate it. It supposedly outputs HTML, so I should be able to load the reports back here, but before that happens, we'll have to have a fragfest to generate a nice big log file...

A new command "menu" enables the configuration menus. Bind it to a key or type it right in the console.

Also, I've changed the basic interface from frames to tables. Now you can actually see what URL you're looking at and hit refresh without getting kicked back to the main page.

Did I say version 0.97? What I meant was, version 0.97a. They come out faster than I can install them!

Status Page Update April 02, 1998
I've given the status page a nicer look and updated it with an automatic thirty second refresh and an audible alarm. Now, if you want to play but don't feel like hanging around for hours until somebody else shows up, you can open a browser window, load the status page, and minimize it. If anyone joins, you'll be notified within seconds.

New Status Page April 01, 1998
I've added a status page that will report the current status of the Quake server. It should be quicker to check this page to see if anyone is already playing, rather than connecting with Quake.

Here we go again March 31, 1998
Ok, Lithium v0.96 is here. Lots of small fixes and enhancements, including two of my own suggestion -- carryover of player settings between levels (i.e., you don't have to issue the id command for every level), and correct credits for a grappling hook kill.

YANLV - Yet Another New Lithium Version March 30, 1998
Sure, five minutes after I upgrade the Lithium mod to v0.94, WhiteFang comes out with v0.95. Apparently, there was a nasty bug in v0.94 that allowed a client to crash the server. Oops. There are no significant enhancements to this version. Check the history.txt file at the Lithium home page for details.

I've also decreased the amount of damage that the grappling hook inflicts.

New Lithium Version March 30, 1998
I just installed Lithium v0.94. It consists mostly of bug fixes, bug there are a few significant enhancements. Primarily, damage is now relative to hit location. In other words, getting shot in the head hurts more than getting shot in the foot. Also, grappling hooks now cause damage should you happen to latch onto someone.

In case you've been wondering, the runes act as follows:

Strength (Red) You inflict 2x damage
Resist (Blue) You take 1/2 damage
Haste (Yellow) You fire twice as fast
Regen (Green) Your health regenerates slowly
Vampire (Purple) You gain health for damage inflicted

Level Change March 28, 1998
After some short testing, I removed the level called "Base Death" from the server -- it was very slow and too big for a few players. If you've already downloaded the first level pack, you can delete the file bdeath.bsp from your quake2\baseq2\maps directory to save a few meg.

The first level pack has been updated so that it no longer includes this level.

New Configuration March 26, 1998
The server is now set up to use only the levels q2dm1 through q2dm8, and the levels found in the first level pack.

New Levels March 25, 1998
I've installed some new deathmatch levels that should be better suited to a small number of players. The server will soon be rigged to randomly circulate among only these new levels and the original id deathmatch levels. If you don't have these extra files, you will get booted when the server tries to load them. You can download the files from the Quake files page.

Also, we've been experimenting with the Lithium settings. See the Lithium page for more.

Lithium March 23, 1998
I have installed the Lithium modifications package into the Quake II server. Refer to the Quake II section for more info.

New Interface March 21, 1998
Oh joy, oh glee, oh heart felt elation. A new interface.

I think I've got the problems with running the server in the background figured out. I'll set it up again tonight and see what happens.

Dead Phone March 19, 1998
Ah! My phone line went dead in the middle of a deathmatch with Unabomber on Wednesday night. It just came back up this evening. Two days without a modem! Where's the number for my therapist?

Hmm, the Quake II server doesn't seem to like running in the background. It won't accept connections, doesn't respond to output redirection, and eats up 95% CPU time. I'll have to start and stop it manually until I figure this out.

Server Cron March 18, 1998
The Quake II server has been set up in cron to start at 6 pm and stop at 6 am.

Up and Running March 17, 1998
The Quake II server is up and running! It was broken in for about two hours by Zucchini and Unabomber.
